Cet important centre religieux et commercial etait la capitale d'un royaume arabe sous influence Parthe ou l'architecture grecque et romaine se melent a des elements de decor d'origine orientale. Le groupe Etat Islamique s'y etait installe pendant son occupation du Nord de l'Irak et y a commis de nombreuses destructions, notamment de statues et de hauts reliefs. Sur la photo, Adib Fateh Ali a gauche, responsable de la logistique et de l'organisation de la mission archeologique italio-irakienne qui travaille a la restauration du site, discute avec David Sassine a droite, charge de projet a la fondation ALIPH qui finance les travaux. Le 12/05/2023 /// The ancient city of Hatra was founded in the 2nd or 3rd century BC in the desert of northern Iraq. This important religious and commercial center was the capital of an Arab kingdom under Parthian influence where Greek and Roman architecture mingle with decorative elements of oriental origin. The Islamic State group had settled there during its occupation of northern Iraq and committed numerous destructions, in particular statues and high reliefs. In the photo, Adib Fateh Ali on the left, responsible for logistics and organization of the Italian-Iraqi archaeological mission which is working on the restoration of the site, discusses with David Sassine on the right, project manager at the ALIPH foundation which finances the works.
