Title : Restauration du patrimoine irakien - Hatra

Caption : La cite antique d'Hatra a ete fondee au 2eme ou 3eme siecle avant JC dans le desert du nord de l'Irak. Cet important centre religieux et commercial etait la capitale d'un royaume arabe sous influence Parthe ou l'architecture grecque et romaine se melent a des elements de decor d'origine orientale. Le groupe Etat Islamique s'y etait installe pendant son occupation du Nord de l'Irak et y a commis de nombreuses destructions, notamment de statues et de hauts reliefs. Un vaste programme de restauration y est actuellement en cours dans le cadre d'une mission archeologique italo-irakienne. Sur la photo, Adib Fateh Ali, responsable de la logistique et de l'organisation de la mission archeologique qui travaille sur le site, montre le mur d'un temple qui a servi de stand de tir aux djihadistes de Daesh. La colonne centrale n'y a pas resiste et s'est effondree. Elle sera restauree mais le mur crible d'impacts de balle devrait etre conserve en l'etat en souvenir de cette sombre periode. Le 12/05/2023 /// The ancient city of Hatra was founded in the 2nd or 3rd century BC in the desert of northern Iraq. This important religious and commercial center was the capital of an Arab kingdom under Parthian influence where Greek and Roman architecture mingle with decorative elements of oriental origin. The Islamic State group had settled there during its occupation of northern Iraq and committed numerous destructions, in particular statues and high reliefs.
A vast restoration program is currently underway there as part of an Italian-Iraqi archaeological mission. In the photo, Adib Fateh Ali, head of logistics and organization of the archaeological mission working on the site, shows the wall of a temple which served as a shooting range for Daesh jihadists. The central column did not resist and collapsed. It will be restored but the wall riddled with bullet holes should be preserved as it is in memory of this dark period.
